Fragile Edge: A Personal Portrait of Loss on Everest
Maria Coffey, foreword by Chris Bonington

In this book, the author describes her relationship with Joe Tasker, one of the more talented British climbers of the 1970s and 1980s. Written to some degree as a cathartic gush following Tasker's fatal disappearance on Mt. Everest, the book and the anguish brings home the often overlooked point of view of the people who are left behind while the climbers reach for the heights. This book also doubles as an adventure travel book as Coffey follows in Tasker's footsteps up to about 19,000 feet on Everest to understand more of what drove him to take the ultimate risk.

This book is the precursor to Coffey's later award-winning books on some of her personal adventures.
