Shisha Pangma: The Alpine Style First Ascent of the Southwest Face
Doug Scott and Alex MacIntyre

This book offers a very detailed description of the small team effort that successfully climbed Shishapangma. The contrast between the climbing philosophies of Doug Scott as the elder statesman and Alex MacIntyre as a hot-blooded, intense climber lends a bit of spark to the writing. As an added benefit, this was one of the first climbing groups to get permission from the Chinese government to enter Tibet, a considerable portion at the beginning of the book (and a large postscript section) is dedicated to describing the cultural and spiritual aspects of the journey into the mountains and the climb -- an effort in which Doug Scott's personal philosophy shines through.

This book won the 1984 Boardman-Tasker Memorial Prize for Mountain Literature.
